Grieves Solicitors Welcomes Unique Mock Accident at Work Learning Initiative

A new initiative aimed at raising awareness about injuries at work and how to deal with them has been announced by the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) - the chartered body for health and safety professionals.

According to the organisation, members of the retail and distribution industries are invited to an event at Warwick University on June 3rd, when a mock workplace accident will take place.

Those in attendance will find out how to deal with everyone from staff and police to journalists and solicitors in the aftermath of an accident at work, as part of an “interactive learning experience”.

Steve Clark, chair of IOSH’s Retail and Distribution Group, said: "It’s vital that managers make sure health and safety remains top priority and does not slip or we could see fatalities and injuries in the sector rise.

“This event uses a training method that has been used for training the staff of one of the biggest retailers in the UK.”

Helen Grieves founder and principal at Grieves Solicitors reacted to the news by praising the IOSH for its approach.

"It’s great to see that not just reducing the number of injuries that occur at work, but also improving employers’ and workers’ reaction to them, is a priority for the IOSH.

"However, we know from representing many victims of accidents at work that working environments across the UK still don’t have the correct health and safety measures in place.

“That’s why compensation is so important for those who have suffered an injury that was the fault of a third party and could have been avoided - to reclaim money they deserve to help considerably improve their quality of life.”
