Translation and Localization Provider ENLASO Joins W3C (World Wide Web Consortium)

WEBWIRE

San Francisco, CA, Feb. 10, 2005, ENLASO Corporation, a provider of enterprise language solutions, today announced that it has joined the W3C (World Wide Web Consortium), and will participate in the initiatives of the W3C Internationalization Activity.

The mission of the W3C is to develop interoperable technologies, including guidelines, specifications, software, and tools, to lead the World Wide Web to its full potential. The W3C is a forum for information, commerce, communication, and collective understanding. More specifically, the goal of the W3C Internationalization Activity is to ensure that the W3C’s formats and protocols do not create barriers for languages, writing systems, character codes, and other local conventions.

Initially, ENLASO will focus on the initiatives set forth by the Internationalization Tag Set (ITS) Working Group. The charter for this group is to develop a set of standardized XML elements and attributes that can be used with new DTDs/Schemas to support the internationalization and localization of documents. The Working Group includes experts from external standards organizations, including the Localization Industry Standards Association (LISA) and the OASIS XLIFF Technical Committee. The Working Group expects the first publication of the proposed tag set by the end of 2005.

ENLASO Localization Solutions Architect, Yves Savourel, will represent ENLASO, and serve as the ITS Working Group Chair. A published author (XML Internationalization and Localization) with more than 13 years experience in localization, Yves Savourel is a pioneer in XML and localization. Savourel is one of the main architects of various localization standards including OpenTag, the Translation Memory eXchange format (TMX) and the XML Localization Interchange File Format (XLIFF). Savourel also develops tools and solutions for localization processes, and provides internationalization and localization consulting to ENLASO clients.

ENLASO’s internationally recognized experts actively participate in the development of industry standards that benefit both the customer and the technologies used to improve localization processes worldwide. Today, ENLASO is actively involved with LISA, UNICODE, and OASIS.

“We are committed to working with the industry leaders represented by the W3C to ensure the interoperability of XML and other structured information standards, which will result in faster and more robust language technology development,” said John Watkins, Vice President of Operations, ENLASO Corporation. “Advancements in multilingual support benefit our customers by increasing their market opportunities worldwide.”
