Toxic Mold at the Center of a $64 Million Lawsuit

Last week the New York Post reported that a husband and wife have filed a $64 million suit accusing their former landlord of using toxic mold to force them out of their rental property. The property, located in TriBeCa, New York, had suffered heavy water damage in 2008.

The property was purchased by a firm in 2006 who according to court filings had tried to buy out the couple’s lease. The couple claims nothing was done to fix the mold problem that had developed and that they both suffered a series of health problems, including difficulties breathing, vision problems and liver damage.

Lawsuits involving mold contamination issues happen across the United States all the time. Companies, such as indoor air quality (IAQ) consultants and mold remediation companies, who are hired to investigate and remedy these situations, are often named in lawsuits dealing with mold problems.
