MAN builds Champion Mobile
MAN has built a unique Champion Mobile for German soccer team Borussia Dortmund (BVB) to use in its championship celebrations on Sunday, May 15, 2011: the first convertible MAN truck. The MAN TGX truck boasting 400 horsepower has been custom-built especially for new German soccer champion BVB. The BVB stars and the champion shield will be chauffeured in it through Dortmund to Friedensplatz when they celebrate winning the title after the last game of the season. “This is the first time that we have ever built such a truck,” emphasizes MAN Executive Board member Dr. Frank Hiller, who is responsible for sales. “The BVB convertible was designed by our engineers and assembled in an MAN tuning shop in the Eifel region over several weeks.”
Champions travel MAN: the cab roof of the 400 hp-strong truck was removed for BVB’s Bundesliga championship win celebration so that the BVB players can celebrate the title with their fans under the open sky. A custom body in the form of a special platform with guardrails was also built. It has room for around 40 people, providing plenty of space for the entire team, their coaches, and their support staff to cheer. A DJ stand and loudspeakers set the right atmosphere on board the Champion Mobile. The convertible truck in BVB’s colors even has a stand for the precious champion shield to keep it from ending up under the wheels whatever happens.
The MAN Group partners with five top league German soccer clubs: Borussia Dortmund, FC Bayern Munich, Hamburg SV, 1. FC Kaiserslautern and VfL Wolfsburg. A total of nine out of 18 Bundesliga teams travel in MAN-branded or NEOPLAN-branded coaches.
