Telstra and Motorola Mobility Inc today announced the launch of ATRIX™, a next generation smartphone powered by Android™ that allows customers to carry the power of mobile computing in their pocket. ATRIX will be available from 7 June 2011 exclusively on the Telstra Next G® Network.

Motorola ATRIX is one of the world’s first smartphones to feature a next-generation dual-core processor with each core running at 1 GHz, delivering up to 2GHz of processing power, as well as 1GB RAM -- making applications run faster, multitasking easier and web browsing effortless. Motorola ATRIX features the world’s first qHD display for a smartphone meaning whether customers are playing games, watching movies or browsing the web, it’s all played out in beautiful clarity. Biometric fingerprint recognition provides additional security at the customer’s convenience, whilst HD video capture and two-way video calling empower customers to shoot and share content quickly and simply.

“Motorola ATRIX is the first smartphone from an Australian telco to offer customers the power of a dual-core processor,” said Andrew Volard, Director, Telstra Mobile Products. “By harnessing the computing power traditionally reserved for a PC, ATRIX makes it possible for customers to enjoy graphic-intensive games and HD video -- plus fast mobile web browsing and effortless multitasking. Teamed with its innovative lapdock and media centre accessories, it is the first smartphone to seriously blur the line between phone and computer. Our customers are going to love looking at content on ATRIX’s huge 4-inch screen which has one of the highest resolutions available on any phone today. By running ATRIX on the Telstra Next G network, customers will be able to enjoy fast web access, share content and make calls in more places than competitor networks.”

“Australians are increasingly using smartphones as their primary digital tool,” says Timo Brouwer, Managing Director, Motorola ANZ and South Pacific. “Motorola ATRIX on the Telstra Next G network ushers in a completely new era of mobile computing, really making it the next generation smartphone. With the exclusive webtop application and one of our innovative docks, Motorola ATRIX enables people to extend the capabilities of their smartphones so they get connected, informed and entertained in entirely new ways, whether they’re at home, at work or on the go.”

Motorola ATRIX is designed to become a customer’s primary digital hub to create, edit and enjoy documents, media and content. This is facilitated by Motorola’s webtop application and by the optional Motorola HD Multimedia Dock and Motorola Lapdock™ that provide customers with a larger screen, keyboard and trackpad enabling them to have an interactive, computer-like experience with their phone.

While using the webtop application customers can run their Android™ applications in a window, browse their favourite websites with a full Firefox desktop browser, edit documents, send instant messages and make phone calls, all at the same time. Calls continue uninterrupted if Motorola ATRIX is removed from a dock. Users can surf the web, view social networks and use HTML5 web-based applications and supported cloud computing services. Plus, the new Entertainment Centre feature lets you show all of the photos, music and videos you already enjoy on-the-go on a big screen in your living room.

The Motorola ATRIX also allows people to easily work with corporate email, documents and media. While using the webtop application, business people with an existing Citrix account will benefit from the integrated Citrix Receiver application that provides secure, high performance access to virtual desktops as well as Windows®, web and office applications hosted on Citrix XenDesktop. In addition, various web productivity applications are available on the full desktop web-browser.

Motorola ATRIX is enabled with ‘Mobile Hotspot’ which can connect up to five Wi-Fi® enabled devices, creating a mobile hub of productivity. Motorola ATRIX runs on Android™ 2.2 with access to more than 150,000 apps in Android Market™.

Motorola is introducing two industry leading companion docks for the Motorola ATRIX, both of which enable the full webtop experience:

The Motorola HD Multimedia Dock has three USB ports and an HDMI port enabling connections to a keyboard, mouse, speakers and HDMI-compatible monitor for working at your desk or office, or to an HDMI-compatible television and home theatre audio system for interacting with content and enjoying video, music, games and more.
The Motorola Lapdock has an incredibly thin design with an 11.6 inch screen, full keyboard, track pad, stereo speakers, and 36Wh three-cell battery that delivers up to eight hours of battery life, and weighs just 1.1kg. Simply dock your Motorola ATRIX into the back of the Lapdock to turn it into an active, connected machine to experience true mobility at work, home and playing on-the-go in a form factor that’s lighter and smaller than most laptops on the market.

Key features and specifications of Motorola ATRIX:
