Harris Corporation Names Jim Traficant President of Healthcare Solutions Business

WEBWIRE

MELBOURNE, FL - Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), an international communications and information technology company, has promoted Jim Traficant to the position of president, Harris Healthcare Solutions. He was previously vice president and general manager of the business.

Traficant has more than 20 years of business development and operational leadership experience in both government and commercial markets. He previously served as vice president of Programs and Business Development for Harris IT Services and was division vice president of Business Development for Harris Government Communications Systems Division.

“Under Jim’s leadership, our Healthcare Solutions business has grown significantly. Harris has established a leadership position in federal healthcare IT integration and has made acquisitions that expand its footprint in the commercial healthcare market,” said Howard L. Lance, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Harris Corporation. “Jim’s personal healthcare experience as a two-time liver transplant survivor drives his passion for transforming healthcare and informs his ability to understand the complex needs of patient and provider.”

The announcement coincides with Harris’ acquisition of Carefx, a leading provider of interoperable workflow solutions, and expansion into the commercial healthcare sector. Announced in February, the Carefx acquisition, completed under Traficant’s leadership, addresses the global market trend to improve health care information technology (IT), interoperability and collaboration between healthcare providers. The Carefx solution suite, Fusionfx, gives care providers a unified look at patient data and closes data gaps to ensure a more consistent, higher quality experience for the patient, reducing clinical errors and increasing individual productivity. Fusionfx is used by more than 800 hospitals, healthcare systems and health information exchanges across North America, Europe and Asia.

In March, Traficant was named to Federal Computer Week’s 22nd Annual “Federal 100,” which honors the top executives who have had the greatest impact on the government information systems community. He also is featured in Gary Shapiro’s New York Times bestselling book, “The Comeback: How Innovation Will Restore the American Dream,” for his compelling healthcare story and innovative solutions for healthcare transformation.

Traficant is a member of the Health Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) and the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA), and is on the board of directors of Cancer Treatment Services International (CTSI). He also serves as a director for United Network for Organ Sharing.

Traficant has a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Geneva College and a master’s degree in business administration from George Washington University.

In healthcare solutions, Harris provides enterprise intelligence solutions and services for government and commercial customers - including systems integration, intelligent infrastructure, interoperability, imaging, and other IT solutions.
