“First Listen Live” Concert Presents Preview Of New Album, “I Am Very Far,” From KUT’s Cactus Cafe

NPR Music and KUT Austin will video webcast a surprise concert from acclaimed indie band Okkervil River tomorrow, Wednesday, April 27, at 7PM (ET) at www.npr.org/music and www.kut.org The NPR Music “First Listen Live” presents Okkervil River’s first live performance of its upcoming album “I Am Very Far.”

The Austin-based band will play in front of a hometown crowd at KUT’s legendary local venue, The Cactus Cafe. For fans that happen to be in the area, a limited number of tickets will be available through KUT on-air giveaways and through KUT social media channels (Twitter and Facebook).

Hosted by KUT, the intimate concert and accompanying live stream is the first opportunity to hear the album before its release on May 10. “I Am Very Far” comes on the heels of the group’s 2010 collaboration with psychedelic rock pioneer Roky Erikson, “True Love Cast Out All Evil” – which landed on many critics’ top 10 lists – and is its first new album in three years.
