Congratulations to the top three traders in last month’s official March Stock Market Game Contest at HowTheMarketWorks.com. The contest ran from March First through the 31st.. Our winners had an EXTREMELY productive month. All of them were able to increase their gains by at LEAST 200%. Each trader started with $25,000 virtual trading cash. The trader that earns the most by the end of the month wins. Let’s take a look at the top three traders from March.

Trader Mr. Burns again finished number three this month and was able to increase his profits by an amazing 226.2% over the month. Just ahead of him was Trader David in second place. He increased his gains by an impressive 269.2%. But the big winner was Trader Spongey once again. He has been the top winner since January and has not relented yet, increasing his profits by a remarkable 297.1%.

So, which stocks did these traders focus on in a month where a large earthquake had people wondering how the stock market would react? Trader Mr. Burns traded Royale Energy, Inc (ROYL), Direxion Financial Bull (FAS), Puda Coal, Inc (PUDA) and GMX Resources, Inc (GMXR). Many of his trades were short sales.

Meanwhile, Trader David held on to second place for the second month in a row by trading Flotek Industries, Inc (FTK), Avalon Rare Metals (AVL), Cheniere Energy, Inc (LNG) and Bank of America Corporation (BAC).

As for Trader Spongey, how was he able secure the top spot for the third month in a row? He traded two of the same companies as he did last month: Rediff.com India (REDF), Shen Zhou Mining & Resources (SHZ). He added new companies as well, such as Hyperdynamics Corporation (HDY) and Magic Software Enterprises Ltd (MGIC).
