WEBWIRE

Acer America today announced the winners of its Acer Mobile Technology Platform Challenge, which was designed to give K-12 schools the chance to win notebooks and netbooks from Acer while learning more about mobile technology platforms that will best suit their students’ needs.

School and IT administrators from around the nation submitted entries showing how the new PCs would help their school’s students acquire 21st century skills. In addition, school and IT administrators took part in a quiz on the differences between notebooks and netbooks to help them identify their schools’ requirements. Ten finalists were chosen by Acer with the grand prize and second place winners selected by public voting.

The grand prize winner was Hoover High School in North Canton, Ohio. Hoover High School will receive 20 Aspire® Netbooks to outfit a classroom. The proposal submitted by the school said it would use the PCs to help students “apply their knowledge, problem solve, effectively communicate, and develop critical thinking skills.”

Miller Elementary School in Canton, Michigan was voted the second place winner for the platform challenge, and will receive a multimedia library of five Acer Aspire Timeline® Notebooks. The school’s proposal stated that during the filming of their proposal, the students “…were so inspired, they hope to produce similar videos now bi-weekly that focus on the learning that happens in their classroom. Laptops would allow them to edit these videos in school.”
