New FSP 150EG-X Combines Ethernet Aggregation with Gateway Functionality for Synchronization and Pseudowire Services

ADVA Optical Networking today announced the availability of its FSP 150EG-X edge gateway, which delivers cost-effective capacity, scalability and resiliency for Carrier Ethernet access and backhaul networks. The product combines scalability with operational simplicity and enables service providers to migrate toward a universal, Ethernet-centric network architecture below the provider edge.

The FSP 150EG-X is a high-capacity, non-blocking edge gateway that provides a central aggregation solution, acts as a timing gateway for synchronization services and includes the termination of pseudowire services. It enables service providers to scale their Carrier Ethernet backhaul offering to address larger applications, while providing a manageable, cost-effective platform that is optimized to deliver intelligent services.

“Service providers need to deliver Ethernet services that meet or exceed the reliability and security of SONET/SDH,” said Christoph Glingener, the company’s Chief Technology Officer. “With our FSP 150EG-X, we have introduced a platform providing highest service availability, scalability and simplicity for open access, mobile backhaul and business Ethernet applications.”

The new product enables access network operators to optimize their Ethernet backhaul networks and simplify handover at the provider edge. Incorporating the company’s Etherjack® technology, the FSP 150EG-X offers advanced service OAM performance, complying with the latest standards and scaling to a large number of monitored services. The integration of ADVA Optical Networking’s comprehensive Syncjack™ gateway technology for timing distribution and delivery of SLA-based synchronization services makes the FSP 150EG-X the ideal aggregation solution for mobile backhaul applications.

When deployed in combination with the company’s FSP 150CC demarcation products, the FSP 150EG-X edge gateway delivers a consistent design model for end-to-end Ethernet service management across the entire access and backhaul network. The complete solution is supported by the FSP Service Manager for seamless end-to-end provisioning and service-based network operations.

“Service providers around the world are evolving their Carrier Ethernet networks,” stated Michael Howard, principal analyst and co-founder of Infonetics Research. “In particular, service aggregation and handover are recurring issues that require a central aggregation solution for mobile backhaul and business Ethernet that involves packet timing and synchronization services. ADVA Optical Networking designed its FSP 150EG-X, Etherjack service assurance and Syncjack timing gateway to address the need for timing and synchronization integral with providing mission-critical business services.”
