Blues Guitar Unleashed Publishes New Phrasing Lesson For Blues Guitar Soloing
In response to subscriber feedback and questions, Blues Guitar Unleashed owner, Griff Hamlin, has posted a new free lesson entitled ’Improve Your Soloing Through Phrasing.’ The lesson is available at http://bluesguitarunleashed.com/improve-your-soloing-through-phrasing/.
According to Griff, “In music we often talk about phrasing, particularly when we’re referring to soloing. We’ll say someone has “good phrasing” while someone else doesn’t. But most people don’t have a really solid definition of what phrasing is and how it affects your sound when you play solos.”
Griff also refers to the tendency of new guitar players to play too often and not let the solos breathe. He writes, “When you get to where you have some vocabulary with your guitar (or any instrument for that matter) it’s time to start having a conversation and to say something.”
The lesson was also from personal experience for Griff, “Personally, when I started studying jazz I realized how badly I suffered from this. I didn’t notice it so much playing blues and rock when I was younger, but I didn’t start playing jazz until my mid 20′s and by that time I was aware of what I was doing as I was learning.” He hopes that other guitar players will read about his experiences and use the exercises and techniques in the lesson to begin to slow down and “say something” with their solos.
