The popular travel portal www.lanzaroteguidebook.com has recorded a 30% growth in visitor numbers during the first three months of this year. As the website’s audience has grown to 420,740 visitors – up from 324,983 for the same period in 2010. So further cementing its position as Lanzarote´s number one online guide.

Lanzarote Guidebook has welcomed an average of 140,246 visitors per month during the first quarter of 2011. With January once again proving to be the busiest month online, when over 160,000 web users visited the site to book holidays, villas in Lanzarote. Whilst also accessing in depth information about this popular holiday destination located just off the coast of West Africa.

Lanzarote – and the other Canary Islands – have beniftted from an upsurge in tourist arrivals during the first three months of this year. With foreign tourist numbers on Lanzarote climbing by over 20% during February alone. An increase that can largely be attributed to the recent upheaval in the Middle East. Which forced many tourists to switch their bookings away from resorts such as Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt to safer winter sun destinations such as the Canaries. Helping to further build on the recovery from record low visitor numbers caused by the economic crisis in 2009.

Editor Nick Ball also believes that the ongoing growth in audience is attributable to Lanzarote´s growing popularity as a destination for independent travellers, stating; “Lanzarote has long since shrugged off its former image as just a package holiday destination. The island has become much more accessible to independent travellers over the last couple of years as a result of growing competition on this route between budget airlines such as easyJet and Ryanair. And as a result there are more flights, at much cheaper prices, than ever before.”

Lanzarote looks set to welcome at least 1.4 million foreign tourists during the course of 2011, with the UK and Eire accounting for at least 60% of these visitors. A large percentage of whom will also visit the Lanzarote Guidebook website both to book flights and accommodation and to access information about the island and its many attractions.

Nick Ball continues; “Thanks to our ongoing search engine marketing campaign Lanzarote Guidebook is one of the first ports of call for anyone seeking information about the island online.”
