Collaboration provides customers with level 1-3 Lustre support services from a single source; expands support options for customers

MILPITAS, Calif. - LSI Corporation (NYSE: LSI) today announced a collaboration with Whamcloud to provide LustreTM support services for users of high-performance computing (HPC) storage systems based on LSI® Engenio® technology. Together, the companies will provide a single source of comprehensive support to assist users in managing and maintaining their HPC configurations.

“Lustre is the most prevalent parallel file system in today’s high-performance computing environments, but Lustre users need to begin seeking support options for all of their non-Oracle hardware,” said Addison Snell, CEO, Intersect360 Research. “Companies looking for an alternate supplier can now turn to LSI and Whamcloud for a continuation of Lustre product and support services from two companies that focus on high-performance data management.”

The collaboration between LSI and Whamcloud brings together a storage industry leader in LSI, with more than 500,000 systems shipped across a wide range of workloads and market segments, with Whamcloud, a company of HPC and Lustre industry veterans focused on evolving Lustre and advancing HPC storage. Lustre is open source software that does not come with support services. Customers considering deploying Lustre can now purchase product support services from a single source that best understands the interaction between storage and Lustre.

“Expanding the support options available to Lustre customers is of vital importance, and this agreement with LSI delivers exactly that,” said Brent Gorda, CEO of Whamcloud. “LSI and Whamcloud share in the commitment to advance Lustre technology, and we’re excited to be teaming up with such a key player in the HPC field to deliver these critical services to customers.”

“Customers in the HPC space rely heavily on the price-performance and flexibility of their storage systems to meet the requirements of a wide range of Lustre workloads,” said Gerard Meluso, senior director of HPC Segment, Engenio Storage Group, LSI. “With the addition of our comprehensive Lustre support services, LSI is helping to ensure that customers deploying systems based on LSI Engenio technology have the opportunity to continue evolving their Lustre and HPC storage environments without compromise or concern.”

The new Lustre support services reinforce the continued commitment of LSI to optimize its storage solutions for HPC environments. LSI was one of ten computing industry leaders to collaborate on the Hyperion Project at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in an effort to accelerate the development of powerful next-generation Linux® clusters. LSI contributed the first storage system installed on the Hyperion cluster, the LSI Engenio 2600, and together with Whamcloud, conducted Lustre performance testing using the Hyperion testbed.

The new Lustre support services will be available to LSI HPC system integrators and OEM customers beginning April 11, 2011.
