Finance team takes credit in awards spotlight

Staff at a Chester-based finance group are celebrating the news that they have helped their firm reach the national finals of a prestigious business awards scheme.

The Funding Corporation has beaten off lending specialists from across the UK to make the last stages of the Credit Today Awards, recognised as the “Oscars” of the finance industry.

Now the company must wait to discover if it has taken the overall accolade in the two categories for which it has been nominated.

The winners will be announced at a glittering celebrity-hosted awards ceremony to be attended by over a thousand guests on May 12 at Grosvenor House in Park Lane, London.

The categories in which The Funding Corporation has been nominated are for the most responsible lender of the year, and for the top alternative lender of the year.

In reaching the finals, the company has taken on some of Britain’s best-known names in the finance world - and undergone a rigorous independent selection procedure.

Judges scrutinised not just the successful track record of The Funding Corporation, but also its systems to ensure responsible lending which safeguards the interests of consumers.

Also under the microscope was how well staff interacted with customers and provided them with help and support, said company MD David Challinor:

“Customer relations is a part of our business in which we take a special pride, and which we largely depend upon our employees to deliver,” said David.

"We were able to demonstrate to the award judges that the culture of doing everything possible to provide a first-class service runs right through the company.

"Our staff are often praised by customers for their courtesy and willingness to go the extra mile, which we see as vital in a people-based business such as ours.

“For that reason, we regard our being selected as finalists in this contest as a victory for our entire team,” said David who is based at the company’s offices on Chester Business Park.

The Funding Corporation employs around 250 people and specialises in providing motor finance for the growing number of people with impaired credit records.

The company works closely with its group member ACF Car Finance Limited which operates a network of retail car showrooms across the UK.

“Getting through to the finals of these awards is tremendously exciting for everyone as they provide an independent measure of our business standing,” said David.

“Ours is a highly competitive sector, and whilst we might not be the biggest participant, it’s good to know that our services are a match for much more well-known players,” he added.

The Credit Today Awards, now in their eleventh year, are organised by Credit Today magazine with sponsorship from major finance industry bodies and organisations.
