Monetary Contribution Augments Infant Product Donations from Toys“R”Us, Japan

WAYNE, NJ - – The Toys“R”Us Children’s Fund today announced a $500,000 donation to Save the Children to help provide relief to children and families impacted by the 9.0 magnitude earthquake and devastating tsunami that recently struck the northeast coast of Japan.

In addition, the Toys“R”Us team in Japan is working with Save the Children to provide immediate deliveries of urgently needed baby products to impacted areas, including 64,800 cases of diapers, as well as blankets, pajamas, washcloths, towels, hats, legwarmers and more.

Save the Children, a global humanitarian organization that has worked in Japan for 25 years, responds to the unique needs of the world’s children during times of crisis. According to the organization, an estimated 100,000 children are displaced as a result of the disaster in Japan. Many children and families are staying in over 2,000 evacuation centers, some of which have no electricity or running water.

Toys“R”Us, Inc., a global organization with stores in 34 countries and jurisdictions, has more than 8,000 employees and 167 stores in Japan. There have been no reports of employee injuries as a result of this crisis. The company is providing support to employees who may have been impacted by the disaster through The Geoffrey Fund, which offers assistance to its team members in times of hardship.
