Toshiba Implements Oracle E-Business Suite to Improve Business Insight and Processes; Completes System Roll Out On-Time and On-Budget

REDWOOD SHORES, Calif., 01-MAY-2006 As part of an effort to improve business insight and automate best practices across its organization, Toshiba America Information Systems Inc. (TAIS) deployed the Oracle( E-Business Suite to manage its business processes - a project that was completed on-time and on-budget, Oracle today announced.
TAIS, the subsidiary of Toshiba America Inc. that provides mobile products and solutions, telecommunications, imaging and storage products and services, branded its successful three-year, multi-million dollar rollout of Oracle Applications as “Implementing a Flexible Foundation for the Future.” TAIS leadership deemed the Oracle deployment as a strategic part of the company’s growth and competitive strategy and an investment that provided critical adaptability.

“We selected Oracle Applications to improve our business processes, so we could leverage best practices and build a technology infrastructure that would better support our business now and into the future,” said Vice President of TAIS Information Technology (IT) & IT-Shared Service Center for North America, Kathy Wilbur. “Oracle has been a strategic partner to TAIS for several years now and we consider the Oracle E-Business Suite implementation to be a great success for both companies.”

In October 2002, the TAIS IT department completed an initial evaluation of needs and began carefully scoping the Oracle project, including defining specific goals and appointing employee leaders from all the lines of business. The core team program directors, supported by employees across departments, partnered with IT to drive the project internally. TAIS ran the Oracle implementation as a business initiative instead of a technology project, which allowed each division to share objectives, test product, recommend changes and give sign-off throughout the implementation. TAIS also worked with Infosys as the implementation partner on the project.

Oracle serves as the standard solution for enterprise resource planning (ERP) business processes at Toshiba worldwide. TAIS set out to meet this requirement by eliminating legacy systems and consolidating disparate applications into a single instance of the Oracle E-Business Suite.

“Oracle’s application architecture, which is based on open standards, allows us the flexibility needed to integrate various applications into our back office system,” added Wilbur.

TAIS did a mostly vanilla implementation, using Oracle Applications as they come, to automate their processes. Among the first applications of the Oracle E-Business Suite deployed were Oracle Order Management and Oracle Financial Management, allowing TAIS to automate its complete and end-to-end, order-to-cash business flow. Tight integration across the applications gave TAIS managers unprecedented visibility and insight into the business, allowing them to better manage inventory, pricing, orders, fulfillment, accounts receivables and payables, all in one system.

TAIS replaced its automated purchasing programs with Oracle Procurement, one of many Oracle E-Business Suite applications deployed to help the company increase efficiencies. Initial results of the procure-to-pay system show that TAIS has greatly improved the purchase requisition preparation cycle. The procurement system integrates seamlessly with Oracle Purchasing, which helps TAIS approve payments faster through an on line work flow process utilizing Oracle Workflow.

Based on the success achieved to date, the company will continue its phased implementation of the Oracle E-Business Suite. TAIS anticipates benefiting from more business insight and control when it adds Oracle iService to its current system for self-service capabilities.
