WEBWIRE

Temecula, CA, March 2011 - The Temecula Winegrowers Association held their 20th “World of Wine” Barrel Tasting event the weekend of March 5th and 6th, as 33 Temecula wineries opened their doors to more than 1200 visitors. Each winery offered at least one tank or barrel sample for Temecula wine tasting along with a food pairing.

WINEormous.com owner Tom Plant visited each winery during the two day event, sampling Temecula wines and food during each stop. A new addition to this year’s event was a cork sculpture contest, with the majority of the Temecula wineries submitting theme-based entries. There were three Leaning Tower of Pisas, a Great Wall of China and an Eiffel Tower. Fans who “like” the Temecula Winegrowers Association on Facebook are encouraged to vote for their favorite entry. A drawing will be held March 31, 2011 with the winner receiving a pair of tickets to this November’s “Harvest Barrel” weekend tasting of Temecula wines.

The Temecula Valley is a rapidly growing wine destination, with more than 30 Temecula wineries at present and more on the way. The region is best known for its Rhone varietals, including Syrah, Grenache, Mourvedre and Viognier. Sangiovese and Zinfandel also do exceptionally well in the region.
