Consensus Building Institute (CBI) Founder and MIT Ford Professor of Urban and Environmental Planning, Lawrence Susskind, was recently awarded the first Kenneth Cloke Peacemaker Award for outstanding and lasting contributions in International Peacebuilding. Mediators Beyond Borders (MBB) presented the award at their annual Congress that took place March 4-6, 2011 in Los Angeles.

MBB’s Peacemaker Award is presented each year to someone who has been a living example of dedication, excellence, and commitment -- not just to peace in general, but to the arduous task of finding ways by which people can agree. “This is the first year the award has been given,” said MBB’s President, Kenneth Cloke. “We chose Susskind as its first recipient to set the bar as high as we could…It is an honor for us to be able to acknowledge and celebrate Larry and the work of CBI,” he said.

Susskind delivered a keynote address at the MBB Congress, focusing on CBI’s recent work with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), a member organization that helps governments tackle economic, social and governance challenges.
