Featuring direct write to Microsoft® Virtual Hard Disk Format (VHD)

March 7, 2011 – Bellevue, Wash. – UltraBac Software today announced the availability of UltraBac Version 9.2 and UBDR Gold Version 6.0. UltraBac v9.2 and UBDR Gold v6.0 now have the ability to create Microsoft Virtual Hard Disk Format (VHD) files in one simultaneous operation while backing up a live system. This functionality, added to its existing ability to create ESX and GSX VMDK files during a regular Windows image backup (a first in the industry) further simplifies virtual recoveries. Whether a customer is using a VMware or a Microsoft virtual product, the new Virtual Disk Agent eliminates the conversion requirements of a typical physical-to-virtual (P2V) operation.

UltraBac v9.2 provides the reliable data protection customers have counted on for all the latest and current Windows Operating Systems (2008 R2, 7, 2008, Vista, 2003, XP and 2000) since its initial release in 1985. Additional support for Exchange and SQL servers is also offered, including VSS protection for both.

The ability to maintain and manage backup machines by groups has also been added to the software’s Management Console. This feature allows users to group multiple backup machines into distribution groups for better network management of remote connections used for backup administration, machine updates, and roll outs.

“The updates in UltraBac v9.2 and UBDR Gold v6.0 continue to further expand our products into the virtual space. Whether a customer is backing up a physical or virtual machine, we have the software that has reliably restored time and again when a failure has occurred,” said Morgan Edwards, founder and CEO of UltraBac Software. “We look forward to releasing even more virtual data protection enhancements in the near future.”

UBDR Gold v6.0 can not only perform a complete virtual disaster recovery operation using VHD files, but it also makes iSCSI integration easier. UBDR Gold supports any standard iSCSI storage system that uses a standard Windows initiator. With so many brands and configurations, another benefit to v6.0 is that it simplifies client integration by eliminating much of the complexity currently associated when adding iSCSI support.
