Betty Crocker dreams up four one-of-a-kind wedding cakes for the April 29 royal wedding

On April 29, the eyes of England, and those all across the globe, will be fixed on the biggest royal wedding since the 1980s. In America, Betty Crocker has helped brides for generations through its cookbooks, cake mixes and do-it-yourself cake recipes. Now, Betty Crocker has designed four show-stopping wedding cakes just for Prince William and his bride-to-be, Kate Middleton.

From now until March 18, Betty Crocker is inviting America to visit www.BettyCrocker.com/RoyalWedding to view the cake designs, inspired by the traditional British phrase “something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue,” and to vote for their favorite royal wedding cake. The Betty Crocker Royal Wedding cakes include:

* Something Old – Classic, timeless and elegant, this wedding cake takes its inspiration from a vintage chandelier – but with a modern twist. The majestic tiers, soft white color palette, gilded accents, and romantic use of light make this cake gorgeous and traditional. The modern twist? With a flair for drama, this cake floats above us, suspended from the ceiling!
* Something New – In this cake, the wedding dessert buffet meets the traditional British topiary. This cone-shaped tower of delightful desserts is an elegant white mosaic of our favorite sweets, from frosted sugar cookies to dainty petit fours to elegant-but-simple palmiers.
* Something Borrowed – This cake borrows from a dessert trend on the rise – pie. Here, piecrust is a decorative and delicious fondant on the cake. It is also used to create accents such as birds, a traditional English wedding cake icon.
* Something Blue – Royal by nature, blue is the perfect color for this wedding. This design takes inspiration from the heirloom sapphire ring, as well as peacock feathers (traditionally associated with both courtship and royalty) and the feathered “fascinator” hats favored by the future Royal. Inside, this “peek-a-blue” cake features layers of Royal Blue Velvet Cake, a new spin on popular Red Velvet Cake!

The winning cake will be announced on March 23.

Continuing the royal wedding celebration fun, Betty Crocker is also providing food ideas and a party planning guide with special recipes and ideas for consumers to consider as they prepare for their royal wedding viewing parties together at home on April 29. Viewing party food ideas from Betty Crocker include:

* Royal Blue Velvet Cake – a twist on popular Red Velvet Cake
* Mini Princess Bride Cakes – cupcakes create a wedding dress fit for a royal princess
* New twists on traditionally British items – Bangers and Mash Hand Pies, Tea Sandwich Flats
* Breakfast ideas – Sweet Breakfast Trifle, Bacon and Egg Savory Cupcakes
* Mini Buckle Berry Pies – inspired by Kate’s hometown of Bucklebury, England
* Cocktails – Hibiscus Royale Champagne Cocktail, Royal Blue Cocktail

New ideas will be released on BettyCrocker.com/RoyalWedding from now through the royal wedding on April 29.

After the royal wedding, Betty Crocker will also share ideas for how to make a cake inspired by the actual royal wedding cake that Prince William and Kate Middleton ultimately enjoy with their guests on their big day.
