BP is to Sell its Veedol and Duckhams Lubricant Brands

WEBWIRE

BP is looking for buyers for its world famous Duckhams and Veedol lubricant brands. Both have been in existence since the invention of the motor car around the start of the 20th century.
The successful buyer will get global rights to a wide portfolio of registered trade marks for the respective master brand as well as the associated product sub-brands and iconic logos.

It will not include any sales or customer lists, nor any product formulation or rights, nor any commitment for supply or other operational support.
Des Johnson, BP/Castrol Lubricants Global Brand Director said:“ Both these brands are world famous and millions of motorists across the world have at one time or another used these brands for their cars, bikes or trucks.”

“We have decided to focus our sales on building our core Castrol and BP lubricant brands and have recently transitioned customers from the Veedol and Duckhams brands,” he said.
Any purchase deal is expected to be completed by the end of this year. Anyone interested in buying the brands has until 12 March to register an expression of interest with:

About Veedol and Duckhams
Veedol has a long history, built from its grand beginnings in several of the world’s most important lubricant markets today. It was the motor oil chosen by Henry Ford to lubricate the world’s first mass produced car, the Model ‘T’ Ford in the USA, it lubricated the first airship to fly around the world, the Graf Zeppelin from Germany, and the first non-stop flight across the Pacific ocean by the ’Miss Veedol’ plane from Japan to the USA.
Duckhams has an equally long history, but more recent market activity. Dating back to the invention of the combustion engine, it had an early relationship with the Morris & Wolsey car manufacturers in the UK. This led to the development of Europe’s first multi-grade engine oil, Q, which later became the motor oil of choice for the Mini. Duckhams also has a long standing history with motorsport, and previously teamed up with Lotus to deliver several Formula 1 race wins.
