The Washington Media Group (WMG), a full services communications consulting firm and advertising agency, is pleased to announce the addition of two new members to the team:

Jon Steinman, the founding director of communications for the Office of Congressional Ethics (OCE), the first independent body providing oversight of the U.S. Congress, joins the firm as a Principal.

Mr. Steinman helped establish the OCE’s functions and reputation during its first two years of operation and successfully helped navigate the office through its first reauthorization, clearing it for continued operations in the 112th Congress.

Before that, he ran his own communications and advocacy firm, Om Message. There, Mr. Steinman helped direct strategy and outreach for non-profits including Veterans for America, which successfully brought the plight of combat-related mental trauma to national attention. He has written speeches and Op-Eds for elected officials, retired generals and business leaders.

Mr. Steinman is also a seasoned reporter who spent 15 years writing for daily newspapers and a wire service. He has worked for The Orlando Sentinel, the Los Angeles Times, The New York Times and Bloomberg News in Washington D.C. He helped cover the disputed 2000 presidential election in Florida, the 2004 presidential election, countless Congressional races as well as the defense industry.

He earned a BA in political science from Vassar College and an MS in journalism from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism.

Adam Shapiro, previously a senior associate at Blue State Digital, which managed digital operations for the successful Barack Obama 2008 presidential campaign, joins the firm as a Principal.
Mr. Shapiro’s groundbreaking work at Blue State Digital included the creation of dozens of communications strategies for leading national and international efforts.

During the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Mr. Shapiro crafted the US Olympic Team’s advertising strategy. The result was skyrocketing user activity and a new fan base of more than 200,000 committed supporters -- far exceeding similar rates from the previous Summer Olympics, an event which historically commands far more attention and popularity.

During the 2010 elections in Great Britain, Mr. Shapiro developed advertising and communication strategies for a coalition of more than 20 advocacy organizations pushing for alternative voting and a hung parliament, an event that had not occurred in more than three decades.

Mr. Shapiro’s work has earned him back-to-back Pollie awards for his innovative strategies and developments, notably in digital rapid response communications.

Mr. Shapiro earned a Dual B.A in Political Science and Economics from The George Washington University.
