Icelandair revises flights schedule to Iceland from Toronto

Icelandair is revising its Toronto flight schedule to and from Iceland for the 2011 season; the airline will be offering 4 flights a week beginning April 13, 2011. Furthermore, all flights from Canada in November and December will be suspended.

Icelandair planned to increase its flight capacity from Toronto in order to operate a longer season but was unfortunately obligated to adjust its Canadian schedule to comply with the newly established Air Services Agreement set forth by the Canadian and Icelandic Government.

Due to the restrictions of the Agreement and increased cost of operations, Icelandair will now offer a limited service and a shorter flight season from Canada. The adjusted Toronto flight schedule will offer 4 flights a week, beginning April 13, 2011, consequently removing the first 8 flights originally planned for the season. Seasonal service will continue through until October 30, 2011 and resume again in 2012.

“Canada has been a very exciting and promising market for us and we will continue to optimize our opportunities while maintaining a profitable and efficient flight schedule. These types of adjustments are necessary for us to grow and thrive in a very competitive and ever-changing industry,” explained Thorsteinn Egilsson, General Manager, Icelandair – The Americas.

In addition to service from Toronto, Icelandair offers non-stop service to Iceland from Boston, New York-JFK, Seattle, and a seasonal service from Washington, D.C., Minneapolis - St. Paul, Orlando Sanford and Halifax. Connections through Icelandair’s hub at Keflavik International Airport are available to over 20 destinations in Scandinavia, the UK and Continental Europe. Icelandair also allows passengers to stopover in Iceland at no additional airfare.
