Siemens to invest more than 50 million U.S. dollars in facilities and R&D centers for high-voltage equipment in Mexico

Erlangen, Germany, On February 2, 2011, the new Siemens production facility was officially opened in Mexico at a ceremony attended by high-ranking representatives from politics and industry. In the El Marques industrial park in the city of Querétaro equipment for high-voltage systems will be produced in a plant with a floor space of 5,000 square meters. At the same time the groundbreaking ceremony was held for an assembly and test plant covering an area of approximately 10,000 square meters. New research centers will also be built there for the development of innovative products tailored for markets in the Americas. By 2015, it is anticipated that over 500 new jobs will be created there, with 30 in research and development alone. The total investment volume is more than 50 million U.S. dollars.

The attendees at the official opening ceremony included José Calzada Rovirosa, Querétaro State Governor, Bruno Ferrari, Mexico’s Secretary of the Economy, Alfredo Elias Ayub, CEO of the state-owned utility CFE, Wolfgang Dehen, Member of the Managing Board of Siemens, and Louise K. Goeser, CEO of Siemens Mesoamerica.

Siemens has been making an important contribution toward Mexico’s technological development for more than 115 years. “With the El Marques plant that we’re now already extending, Siemens is strengthening its leading role in the energy sector and underscoring its commitment to the creation of new jobs and local value added in Mexico. Research and development activities will also be initiated and expanded at this location,” said Wolfgang Dehen, CEO of Siemens Energy, at the plant’s official opening. “Siemens is now optimally prepared to meet the demand for efficient high-voltage equipment in Mexico. At the same time the plant will serve as a platform for exports to the NAFTA region and the Central American markets,“ said Dehen.
