Stella Artois Set to Make Super Bowl Advertising Debut With the Help of Academy Award-Winning Actor Adrien Brody
ST. LOUIS – Stella Artois, the best-selling Belgian beer in the world and one of the fastest-growing import brands in the country, will make its Super Bowl ad debut during FOX’s broadcast of Super Bowl XLV on Sunday, Feb. 6, 2011.
The ad, titled “Crying Jean,” stars Academy Award-winning actor Adrien Brody and is the latest spot from Stella Artois’ “She is a Thing of Beauty” campaign. In it, Brody plays a crooner serenading a room full of beautiful women at an underground jazz club circa 1960. While each of them makes clear their interest in him, it quickly becomes apparent that he has eyes for another.
“It’s an incredibly creative concept. There’s humor and there’s a very hip, musical quality to it,” said Brody. “It also pushed me past my own comfort lines with singing, because I’ve never done that before. That was very exciting.”
Brody, the youngest actor ever to win the Best Actor Academy Award, also talked about his motivation for lending his considerable talents to the small screen and Stella Artois.
“In life and in art, you align yourself with people, projects and brands that speak to you on some level – that you appreciate or enjoy,” he said. “Stella Artois is no exception.”
Stella Artois is the gold standard for European lagers – known for its quality, sophistication and brewing heritage. “Crying Jean” is the latest installment in Stella Artois’ global advertising campaign, “She is a Thing of Beauty,” that has recently featured television creative from filmmakers Wes Anderson and Roman Coppola, as well as print creative shot by renowned photographer Bert Stern.
“This is a great stage to bring awareness to one of the world’s truly great beers,” said Andy Goeler, vice president, Imports, Crafts & Specialties, Anheuser-Busch. “We’re very excited about Stella Artois’ prospects for continued growth in the United States and, in this instance, we’re thrilled to have benefitted from the involvement of one of this generation’s finest actors.”
The spot also showcases Stella Artois’ time-honored 9-Step Pouring Ritual and the brand’s signature chalice glass.

About Stella Artois®
Stella Artois traces its origin back to 1366 to the Den Hoorn brewery in Leuven, Belgium, just outside of Brussels. The beer was originally brewed to celebrate Christmas, and it was named Stella (Latin for “star”) for its exceptional clarity. Stella Artois has a pleasantly bitter flavor and refreshing finish that distinguishes it from other European lagers. Stella Artois should only be served in its signature chalice, which showcases its rich, golden color while releasing the beer’s flavor and aroma. Visit www.stellaartois.com for more information.
