Atlanta Legal Nurse Consultant Presents "Life Care Planning" Speaker In Augusta, GA

WEBWIRE

Atlanta, Georgia – Liz Buddenhagen, registered nurse, and certified legal nurse consultant, presided at the January 20, 2011 meeting of the Greater Augusta Chapter of the American Association of Legal Nurse Consultants (AALNC) as their 2011 President. The chapter welcomed Kathy Christopherson, visiting Program Chair of the Atlanta chapter AALNC, and principal of “Critical Consults.”

Life Care Planning:

Lessie Chapman, a local Augusta Life Care Planner, discussed when a life care plan is needed in the legal process, what a life care plan is, and how a life care plan is developed.

“Life Care Plans are a logical extension of nursing process, and nursing care plans,” explained Chapman. Nurses are uniquely qualified to examine medical records of the injured/ill client, assess their current, and future needs based on medical records, physician evaluations, recommendations, and determine local costs of the care needed by the client. Nurses are able to evaluate the data effectively, and accurately due to their medical background, and training, and will pick up on important points of care that a non-medical assessor may miss.

Chapman discussed the importance of making a home visit to the client to evaluate their needs specifically to the home environment, which can result in identification of critical issues that may not be apparent in the medical record.

Anita Aguirre, registered nurse, assists Chapman in creating the life care plans.

Lori Greenhill, registered nurse, described to the group the services her company “Concierge Services of Augusta,” provides. Vickie Gibbs, registered nurse, and legal nurse consultant, announced that she has taken the position of director of nursing for a local Augusta nursing home, in addition to her legal nurse practice Professional Legal Nurse Consultants.
