The Foundation for Peace: First Two-day International Conference

WEBWIRE

The Foundation of Peace has organised its first two-day international conference, which will take place on the 27th and 28th January.

This highly anticipated event will be held at the Peace Centre in Warrington, and will mark a key moment in the charity’s history, which aims to promote the understanding and resolution of conflict.

The conference, which has been named, ‘International Approaches to Building Peace: from Global to Grassroots’, includes two days filled with peace building talks, workshops and activities.

On day one speakers, including Roelf Meyer, the former Minister of Defence for South Africa, will address a range of issues facing governments and communities worldwide. This will include the violent conflicts in Africa and the application of peace building and structured mediation in Afghanistan, Northern Ireland and Israel-Palestine.

Day two of the conference will concentrate on the Foundation’s work with victims through the Survivors for Peace programme. This gives survivors of political violence the opportunity to train in leadership skills and become inspirational role models in their communities.

The two-day international conference will be an incredible milestone for the Foundation for Peace. Speaking of her joy, Chief Executive, Clare White said:

“We are delighted to be able to host this conference which has attracted such high calibre speakers. The conference is the first time the Foundation has been able to bring representatives from across the world together to learn from each other in this way. It also marks the culmination of 3 years BIG Lottery funded work through our Survivors for Peace programme, which has enabled many victims and survivors of conflict to undertake positive activities back in their own communities.”

The event has already attracted speakers from around the world, and promises to communicate the Foundation’s cause on an international platform.

The Tim Parry Johnathan Ball Foundation for Peace, was established by the parents of 12 year old Tim Parry, and supported by the parents of 3 year old Johnathan Ball. Tim and Johnathan were tragically killed as a result of the IRA’s bombing of Warrington in 1993. The Foundation now seeks to promote the understanding and peaceful resolution of conflicts.
