Grass Valley Shows New Products Utilizing REV Technology For The Professional Audio and Video Industry

SAN DIEGO, April 24, 2006- Iomega Corporation (NYSE: IOM), a global leader in data storage with more than a quarter century of continual business, today announced that Grass Valley, a business within Thomson (Euronext Paris: 18453; NYSE: TMS) and a recognized leader in broadcast and professional acquisition and production products, will be at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) convention this week showing its new Infinity™ Series of products that incorporate Iomega’s REV® technology as a new recording medium.

The Grass Valley™ Infinity Digital Media Camcorder and Infinity Digital Media Recorder utilize the Grass Valley REV PRO™ drive and removable 35GB* REV PRO disks to provide the portability and cost-effectiveness of videotape with the speed, flexibility and ease of use of non-linear hard drive technology.

Grass Valley Infinity Series products, which are expected to begin shipping later this year, are the first such products to use off-the-shelf Iomega REV disks as recording and playback media. At NAB, held in Las Vegas, April 24-27, Grass Valley will also be launching stand-alone REV PRO drives and disks. Grass Valley’s REV PRO 35GB disks will allow professional users to record more than two hours of SD (standard definition) or 45 minutes of HD (high definition) video with complete flexibility in the use of encoding and compression schemes.

The new Grass Valley REV PRO drive is based on the Iomega® REV® 35GB drive, a durable, dependable hard-drive based removable storage solution created two years ago by Iomega for the backup and archiving of critical data for small and medium-sized businesses. To date, over 1,000,000 REV disks and over 200,000 REV drives have been sold by Iomega to individuals, small businesses, government agencies and corporate offices as portable backup and archive storage solutions.

“The demonstration of Grass Valley Infinity Series products and the availability of REV PRO drives and disks is good news for the professional audio/visual market, which has been waiting for a robust, affordable alternative to tape,” said Tom Kampfer, President and Chief Operating Officer, Iomega Corporation. “At NAB, Grass Valley is showing the broadcasting world what’s possible when you put the capacity, throughput and durability of REV technology to work in modern recording gear.”

The Grass Valley Infinity Digital Media Camcorder combines the best of Grass Valley’s Emmy® award-winning camera engineering with the leading recording and connectivity technologies from the computing world. Ideal for multi-format acquisition as well as migration from SD (standard definition) to HD (high definition), the camcorder provides a choice of video formats and standards selectable within the camera.

The Grass Valley Infinity Digital Media Recorder is a low-cost video tape recorder (VTR) replacement that eliminates the compromises of tape-based video editing and playback.

Both the Infinity Digital Media Camcorder and the Infinity Digital Media Recorder support recording and playback to and from Iomega REV disks, Grass Valley REV PRO disks, and SanDisk CompactFlash solid-state media as well as external devices.

REV PRO removable disks can replace traditional videotape because they are more rugged and durable, transfer video data at the speed of a hard drive, and offer random access to stored video clips. REV PRO disks can replace videotape in the field, in preview rooms, in edit bays, in control rooms - anywhere VTRs are used. In addition, the Grass Valley Infinity Digital Media Recorder can be connected directly to a nonlinear editing workstation or, for greater accessibility, it can be attached to a file server for immediate enterprise-wide use.

Grass Valley’s REV PRO disks provide video professionals with tremendous workflow efficiencies, including nonlinear random access to video files, simultaneous playback while recording, and estimated 30-year archival storage. REV PRO disks also offer users superior performance at wide extremes of humidity, temperature and altitude. Master and user passwords provide content security with guaranteed corporate access.

“The fact that REV technology is durable and dependable enough to handle the bumps and knocks inherent in professional recording and broadcasting is proof positive that REV drives and disks can stand up to any backup and archive needs of small and medium-sized businesses today,” said Kampfer. “The same is true for other vertical industries where tape is the standard and REV’s performance advantages make it a superior solution.”
