Additional Spectrum to Improve Connectivity and Performance of Mobile Broadband Voice and Data Applications

Miami, Florida, --

AT&T* continues to increase mobile broadband capacity and coverage for its South Florida customers to support growing demand for advanced mobile devices and applications.

Since the start of the year, third and fourth layers of frequency, also known as “carriers,” have been added to 62 AT&T cell sites in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties to boost capacity at the sites. A new mobile broadband cell site in Miami also has been activated.

The new Miami mobile broadband cell site on N.W. 25th Street is providing additional coverage and capacity along the Palmetto Expressway between N.W. 14th Street and N.W. 29th Street.

The areas benefiting from the extra capacity at 61 other sites are Miami, North/Northwest Miami, North Miami Beach, Miami Beach, Biscayne Boulevard, Key Biscayne, Rickenbacker Causeway, Brickell, Hialeah, Hialeah Gardens, Medley, Opa-Locka, Westview, Miami Gardens, and Ponce de Leon Boulevard in Miami-Dade County; Oakland Park, East Sunrise, Deerfield Beach, Hillsboro Mile, Cypress Lake, N. Riverside Drive, E. Atlantic Blvd., E. Sample Road, E. Copans Road, North Lauderdale, Rock Island, Los Olas Boulevard, and N. Atlantic Boulevard in Broward County; and Delray Beach, Royal Palm Beach, the Acreage and Loxahatchee in Palm Beach County.

With mobile broadband speeds, AT&T customers can surf the Web, download files faster, and enjoy the very latest interactive mobile applications. Additional capacity helps improve broadband wireless data and voice connectivity and performance.

“As part of the South Florida community, we’re always looking for new opportunities to provide an enhanced customer experience and our investment in the local wireless network is just one way to accomplish this,” said Marshall Criser, III, AT&T president, Florida.

In addition to these recent upgrades, AT&T in late December added extra capacity to 116 cell sites in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties and activated four new sites in Weston, Coconut Creek, Boca Raton, and Palm Beach Gardens.

“Supporting mobile broadband growth is our No. 1 investment priority,” said Carlos Blanco, vice president and general manager, AT&T Mobility & Consumer Markets for South Florida. “The network upgrades we’re making in South Florida are part of our efforts to increase network speed, capacity and coverage for our customers.”

AT&T’s mobile broadband network is based on the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) family of technologies that includes GSM and UMTS, the most widely used wireless network platforms in the world.
