Siemens Unveils New Residential Wireless Gateways with IntelliSteer™ Smart Antenna Technology, Providing Carrier-Class Triple Play Performance

WEBWIRE

Munich, Apr 24, 2006, Siemens Home and Office Communication Devices is launching new Gigaset® SE567 and SE568 residential ADSL2+ wireless gateways featuring IntelliSteer smart antenna technology. The patented beam steering technology typically doubles signal strength over conventional antenna solutions while minimizing interference from and with other wireless neighbors. The announcement comes as a continuation of Siemens’ focus on smart devices for the home that allow service providers to more easily deploy, maintain and support their broadband services.

Whereas traditional wireless antennas transmit and receive energy more or less equally in all directions, IntelliSteer monitors the network connection and redirects antenna power for maximum network performance and reduced interference. The Gigaset SE567 and SE568 Gateways’ IntelliSteer actively switch between directional beams to ensure the strongest signal for each connected device, thereby maximizing throughput and range, and providing a dramatic improvement over standard antennas.

“The Gigaset SE567 and SE568 Gateways give service providers a great advantage in the race for triple-play services such as IPTV and VoIP,” adds CEO Martin Kinne. “Service providers need solutions that increase performance and stability, while offering a platform for service enablement, a requirement to capture market share in the rapidly crowding broadband marketplace.”

The Gigaset SE567 and SE568 Gateways include four 10/100 Ethernet ports; one may be configured as a WAN (Wide Area Network) interface for a two-box solution for services such as in fiber deployments. The Gigaset SE568 includes an added USB client port for connection flexibility. Both Gateways include powerful security features such as a configurable ICSA-compliant inspection firewall with Denial of Service (DoS) protection. A robust QoS (Quality of Service) subsystem incorporating separate QoS Classifier, Queue Manager and Scheduler guarantees the highest quality subscriber experience under the most demanding traffic situations.

The new Gigaset SE567 and SE568 Gateways are due to hit the global market this summer.
