Butch McGuire’s, Legendary Chicago Saloon, Celebrating Fifty Years Of Good Times
Butch McGuire’s, a legendary Chicago saloon and eatery, is celebrating its 50th year in operation, dishing out great food, good drinks, and a welcoming atmosphere that keeps regulars coming in and newcomers coming back.
Open in 1961 by the tavern’s namesake, Butch McGuire, this must-see Division Street restaurant is now operated by Butch’s son, Robert McGuire. Butch McGuire’s is most known for its huge selection of draft beers (at last count they had 25 on tap), but it also has a reputation for good food. Its menu is more than just “bar” food, and the saloon is mostly known for its huge burgers, cooked to order, and big enough to fill any belly.
This family-owned business is the oldest continuously open/singly owned bar on Division Street, and attracts a diverse crowd of people, young and old, looking for a fun and inviting atmosphere. In June, 2011, the restaurant is throwing an anniversary party and is inviting its customers to join an e-mailing list for details.
Last summer, the Butch McGuire’s challenged their customers to produce videos featuring the famous tavern. Each month a winner is selected and awarded $50 in “Butch Bucks,” and their video featured on the restaurant’s website and YouTube. It’s just one way Butch McGuire’s makes its customers feel like part of the owner’s extended family.
Butch McGuire’s, at 20 W. Division St., is a must-see place whether you’re in Chicago for just a weekend, or have been living here your whole life. Some say an out-of-town visitor hasn’t been to Chicago if they haven’t been to Butch McGuire’s.
