Travel Consumer Group Celebrates 15 Years of Helping Holidaymakers!
HolidayTravelWatch is proud to announce that it is celebrating its 15th year of operations! The Organisation was created by the late Brenda Wall, who formed HolidayTravelWatch during 1995/1996, following her disastrous holiday in San Andres. From that terrible personal experience, she created the UK’s first legal group action of over 100 holidaymakers and pursued their tour operator for not only their general holiday complaints concerning the standard of their hotel, but also for the wide range of notifiable illnesses present in the group. Brenda pursued their claims under the then fledgling Package Travel Regulations; these were created following the introduction of an EU Directive on Package Travel rights in 1990. As a result of her action and campaigning zeal for better standards in holiday contracts, she realised that she had created a service for ordinary UK holidaymakers, providing her time and newly found expertise to Consumers free of charge!
Since those early days, many thousands of UK holidaymakers have achieved compensation for their holiday claims. Since the Organisation’s creation, HolidayTravelWatch estimates that they have now dealt with over 200,000 individual holiday complaints and that compensation achieved now exceeds over £20million. Whilst helping people to resolve their claims, the Organisation has also continued Brenda’s work and developed a strong voice at Westminster and in Europe, demonstrating the real detriment of ordinary people and arguing for legislative change.
HolidayTravelWatch continues to provide free guidance to holidaymakers, but has found that its internet presence has attracted a wide global constituency, all crying out for justice! 2011 will see further IT development for HolidayTravelWatch and it will extend its operations to assist non-UK holidaymakers to deal with holiday illness/accident claims that have originated in the UK!
