SAS one of best workplaces in Italy per Great Place To Work® Institute

Milan – SAS is among the top 35 companies in Italy, according to the Great Place To Work® Institute, a research company specializing in analyzing workplaces. This is the second year that SAS Italy participated in the annual survey, which has been published for 10 years in Italy.

The 27th-place ranking is particularly significant, according to Elena Panzera, Human Resources Director for SAS Italy. “Companies designated in the top 35 must satisfy dozens of different parameters, including such sensitive factors as gender equality or diversity,” she said. “And it is precisely on such subjects that SAS Italy achieved some of the highest scores.”

U.S.-based SAS – a privately held company – pays particular attention to the individual and the balance between work and personal life. SAS also treats sustainability as a serious, core value, and not simply a question of image. The difference is well understood by employees, both in Italy and at corporate level, where SAS topped FORTUNE magazine’s annual “100 Best Companies to Work For” list in the United States in 2010.

“For SAS Italy, attention to the workplace environment is a comprehensive strategy that puts people at the center,” added Panzera. “Although we are part of a multinational corporation. in Italy we have just over 300 employees. That means we can actually know each of them, and create an environment in which they can work more comfortably and be more productive.”

Building a personalized approach for each employee might mean, for example, making intelligent use of work-time flexibility or teleworking. It also involves designing a growth plan to identify personal and professional development opportunities. SAS also strives to help employees with everyday needs: SAS is one of few companies in Italy to provide employees with a “company butler,” who can help with miscellaneous tasks like paying bills or running errands, saving the employee time and stress.

For SAS, a positive workplace goes beyond the company itself to include the entire ecosystem – from suppliers and partners to the institutional entities that influence the company’s social and economic context. This is the spirit in which SAS was founded nearly 35 years ago, when it began as a collaboration between business and academia. The resulting initiatives and contributions have helped to build a culture of innovation in Italy, in particular by bolstering employment and by training recent graduates and talented youth.

"Being ranked among the first 35 companies in the Great Place to Work list confirms the success of the initiatives we have already undertaken and is a stimulus to continue in this direction,” said Marco Icardi, SAS Italy Country Manager, “SAS never loses sight of the uniqueness of the individual or the national context, as we preserve at the country level the benefits and the guarantees of equality that have been established at the corporate level.”
