MAN once again truck market leader in Brazil

2010 record year in sales and production for MAN Latin America

MAN Latin America can look back on 2010 as a record year. Around 68,000 trucks and bus chassis were produced in the MAN plant in Resende last year, some 50% more than the 45,500 the year before. The volume of production thus reached its highest level in the company’s entire history.



In Brazil, the main market, a record of more than 48,600 trucks and 8,700 bus chassis were sold. According to the Brazilian Association of the Automotive Industry ANFAVEA, the market share of 29.1% made the company market leader in trucks over five tonnes for the eighth year in succession. MAN Latin America was for the second time also market leader in trucks over 3.5 tonnes with a 28.7% share of the Brazilian market. A further 8,000 vehicles were exported to other Latin American countries and to Africa.



In order to satisfy the strong demand for commercial vehicles in Latin America MAN introduced a third shift at the Resende plant back in March, thereby raising the production capacity to a maximum of 72,000 vehicles per year. In July the Mexican commercial vehicle plant in Querétaro was integrated in the MAN Latin America organisation with the result that today MAN has a uniform presence throughout the entire Latin American market.



“2010 was a record year for us in many respects: we are once again the clear Number One in trucks in Brazil and produced a record number of vehicles in three shifts at the Resende plant. Several prizes, which we had the pleasure of receiving last year, confirm that we are on the right track. On the internal side we successfully concluded the integration into the MAN Group, of which we have now been a part for exactly two years" said Roberto Cortes, President of MAN Latin America.
