LAS VEGAS, US - Jungo Ltd., a leading provider of connectivity software solutions, and remote access software specialist RealVNC, today announced a partnership to provide interconnectivity between personal mobile devices and in-car infotainment systems.

Jungo and RealVNC have based their solution on VNC® Mobile Solution for Automotive, supporting Terminal Mode, based on VNC, a specification published by Consumer Electronics for Automotive (CE4A,) an automotive industry working group comprising Audi, BMW, Daimler, Porsche and Volkswagen and Nokia. The specification proposes an industry standard for the seamless integration of mobile devices and applications with vehicle infotainment systems.

The combined Automotive Connectivity Middleware from Jungo and VNC Mobile Solution for Automotive from RealVNC enables the head unit of the car infotainment system to automatically detect, access and control mobile devices in the vehicle and display their content on the screen in the dashboard. The design combines VNC (remote access and control) technology from RealVNC and the world leading Jungo Automotive Connectivity Middleware featuring device connectivity, media and network management, USB and Bluetooth protocol stacks from Jungo.

RealVNC Mobile Solution for Automotive supports a wide range of mobile operating systems and legacy devices, as well as also providing support for those handsets that support Terminal Mode. Terminal Mode allows users to display their smartphone screen on the infotainment screen and control their devices from the dashboard, without altering the interface and user experience. One of the key benefits of Terminal Mode, according to its proponents, is that it automatically filters out unsafe applications so that they can’t be used while driving.

“Jungo’s Automotive Connectivity Middleware enables connectivity of the head unit to any device over any protocol together with media, phone and internet management capabilities” said Jungo Connectivity Software General Manager Ophir Herbst. “The partnership with RealVNC further strengthen the solution by providing best in class Terminal Mode connectivity to smartphones”

“Working with Jungo we have been able to address many low level connectivity issues being faced by our OEM customers who are implementing Terminal Mode” added Tom Blackie Vice President Mobile, RealVNC. “Our customers can now benefit from a range of middleware and USB connectivity stacks, which enable them to get to market quickly with a mature and robust solution worth of an automotive-grade product”.

Jungo Automotive Connectivity Middleware will be demonstrated at the Jungo booth at CES. located in the USB TechZone, booth 36505, in South Hall 4 (upper level) of the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC.)
