Rottenstein Law Group Now Evaluating Poligrip Lawsuits

(January 3, 2011, New York, NY) The Rottenstein Law Group is now accepting Poligrip lawsuits nationwide. The firmís lawyers have begun evaluating claims of consumers who believe they have been injured by the inclusion of zinc as an ingredient in Poligrip denture adhesive products. Since denture creams are classified as Class I medical devices by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), manufacturers are not required to list their productsí ingredients on packaging. GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), the manufacturer of Poligrip products, was including zinc in the composition of its denture creams, in order to reduce odor and aid in adhesion. Zinc is an essential mineral necessary for normal bodily function, but excessive amounts absorbed by the body can lead to the purging of too much copper, which is necessary to maintain healthy brain and nervous system function. This can lead to disorders affecting the nerves outside of the brain and spinal cord (neuropathy). Zinc poisoning is one of the causes of neuropathy, which can lead to permanent disability and even death.
When studies linking excessive zinc to neuropathy were published, GSK placed warning inserts inside Poligrip packaging, then eventually discontinued its line of denture creams containing zinc altogether. GSKís actions will prevent harm from coming to new consumers, but they wonít remedy the harm already inflicted on consumers who used Poligrip containing zinc.
Denture cream users who have experienced changes in their health should contact a health care professional immediately, to evaluate any symptoms. If you are diagnosed with neuropathy, or any other symptoms related to zinc poisoning, it is important to address those issues, and then contact experienced legal counsel, to determine whether or not you may be eligible for compensation from a denture cream manufacturer. The Rottenstein Law Group has set up a Web site providing information to consumers who believe they may have been injured by a denture cream product.
