Nationís Favourite Mozart revealed as Requiem Mass in D minor
In the run-up to the stationís extensive season The Genius Of Mozart, listeners to BBC Radio 3ís Breakfast show have voted Requiem Mass in D minor (K.626) as the Nationís Favourite Mozart.
The Requiem, composed in Vienna in 1791 beat other favourites Soave sia il vento (trio from Cosi fan tutte) and the Clarinet Concerto in A into second and third place respectively.
Radio 3 launched the Nationís Favourite Mozart on the Breakfast programme on 1 December. Listeners were asked to email or text in their favourite Mozart pieces many of which were played on the show. On 13 December, a Top 10 was compiled and listeners were invited to vote online to choose the winner.
Roger Wright, Controller of Radio 3, says: ďWeíre delighted that our listeners have enjoyed hearing these great works on Radio 3 Breakfast and engaged with this search for the Nationís Favourite Mozart. I hope this enthusiasm continues with our Genius Of Mozart season in the New Year.Ē
The Genius Of Mozart begins on BBC Radio 3 on January 1. The season will run for 12 days.
