Hizb ut-Tahrir Denies Involvement In Dushanbe Blast

London, UK, February 2 – Hizb ut-Tahrir, the well known non-violent Islamic political party, denies any involvement whatsoever in Monday’s car bomb in Dushanbe, Tajikistan. Hizb ut-Tahrir does not engage in terrorism, violence or armed struggle and is an Islamic intellectual and political entity that seeks to change people’s thoughts through intelligent discussion and debate.

Hundreds of members of Hizb ut-Tahrir have been unlawfully arrested and imprisoned in Tajikistan. There are credible reports of severe abuse being perpetrated against our members in Tajik prisons as well as reports of deaths in police custody. Members have been given fifteen year sentences for distributing literature calling for the return of the Islamic Khilafah [Caliphate].

Dr Imran Waheed, a UK based doctor and Representative of Hizb ut-Tahrir Britain, said, “Undoubtedly, the Tajik regime, under the guise of the ’war on terror’, will seek to use these recent events as a justification for the increased oppression of Muslims who work peacefully for Islam. Their attempt to malign Hizb ut-Tahrir by accusing it of violence or militancy will fail, in the same manner that Uzbek President Karimov’s attempt to do so failed. Hizb ut-Tahrir continues to grow in strength and popularity in the region and the return of the Islamic Khilafah [Caliphate] is now on the horizon.”
