North Carolina Farm Bureau Among First Property & Casualty Insurers To Commit to Java Components

FALLS CHURCH, Va.,– CSC (NYSE: CSC) today announced availability of the Java Platform Enterprise Edition (Java EE) of its Exceed software and new commitments from clients, including North Carolina Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company of Raleigh, N.C. With platform and database flexibility, the Exceed software suite provides comprehensive policy administration as well as billing and collections for property and casualty (P&C) insurers. Suite components can be implemented together or individually to extend IT investments, introduce new capabilities faster and provide improved operating costs and customer service.

North Carolina Farm Bureau has plans to implement the Java version of Exceed Policy and is the first CSC client to commit to migrating its production system, Exceed Claims, to the Java version when that option is available in late 2011. Available today are Java components for policy administration (for personal auto line of business), billing and collections, and client management.

North Carolina Farm Bureau has implemented Exceed Claims and CSC’s Fraud Analytics, replacing third-party data entry screens and legacy system transaction processing. The carrier is also in the process of implementing Exceed Policy to initially manage its mobile homeowners, personal and commercial inland marine, and personal insurance coverage lines of business.

“We recognize the long-term benefits of a Java technology-based platform and chose Exceed for its scalability and proven, function-rich capabilities to grow with us well into the future,” said Linda Squires, senior executive, Operations and IT North Carolina Farm Bureau Insurance Group. “CSC’s Continuous Delivery approach for software migrations helps to assure a smooth transition, as we continue to focus on delivering innovative products to our customers and efficiently processing claims.”

“CSC is committed to providing transformational technology that helps insurers achieve improved operating costs, premium growth and higher levels of customer service,” said Jeffery Schwalk, president of CSC’s Property and Casualty Insurance Division. “This new option for Exceed is yet another CSC milestone reflecting solid planning and execution to augment the industry’s broadest portfolio of solutions for the insurance market.”

The Java version of Exceed Policy supports end-to-end P&C insurance processing for all 50 states, the UK and Canada on Sun Solaris and Linux on IBM’s System z, along with DB2 and WebSphere. Additional platforms will be supported including Windows, SQL Server, and others. CSC will continue to support and maintain the components through its Continuous Delivery software upgrades, which give insurers incremental updates as soon as they become available.
