China In 2011: A Great Travel Opportunity For Keen Gardeners

Providence sometimes presents wonderful opportunities. Keen gardeners with a penchant for travel will relish the prospect available in China next spring.

The annual Peony Festival in Luoyang takes place in the second half of April, traditionally from the 15th to the 25th. The Festival takes place at many venues throughout the city and includes many cultural events as well as vast displays of the star attraction. The Tree Peonies are native only to China, and therefore truly special.

Xi’an, more famous for the nearby Terracotta Warriors, will host the 2011 World Horticultural Expo between 28 April and 22 October. Themed Eternal Peace & Harmony between Nature & Mankind, Nurturing the Future Earth and sited in its own purpose-built grounds this event will incorporate a wide range of gardens and gardening ideas.

Since the two cities are now connected by a high-speed rail link the two events are easily combined.
