Cyber Monday Here to Stay!
Cyber Day Sales have become a mainstay of retail online marketing, according to Matt Graham, CEO of Wholesale Chess and Wholesale Boardgames—two online only shopping sites. Wholesale Chess carries hundreds of chess sets, chess clocks, chess boards, and anything else to do with the game of chess. Wholesale Puzzles sells just what the name implies—jigsaw puzzles for all ages.
“Only a few years ago no one had even heard of the Cyber Monday. The phrase was coined to depict the impact of the Monday after Thanksgiving for retailers,” according to Graham. "Black Friday, (the day following Thanksgiving,) is known to everyone now as one of the biggest shopping days of the year. Cyber Monday is supposed to be the same thing for online retailers, he said.
“However, we have also discovered that Black Friday sales have also given a boost to online retailers,” Graham added. “We definitely see a pick-up over the Thanksgiving weekend,” he said. "We see a lot of wood chess sets and chess computers going out, and a lot of family game sets such as chess and checker combinations. People seem to be shopping for family gifts and for higher end chess sets.
“Cyber Monday we see a lot of chess clock, chess books and other chess accessories, as well as chess sets,” Graham said. “I think many chess players watch for the Monday sales to get the things they want for their own use, as well as chess sets for gifts.”
“Jigsaw puzzles seem to be steady for both days, he added. ”Many people do buy them for gifts and for a Christmas puzzle, but many also just get them because they enjoy assembling them year-round"
“I have noticed that this year many big-box online retailers are advertising Cyber Week,” he said. “It doesn’t look like a passing fad. Cyber Monday is here to stay.”
