Panda on the Move: WWF-Canada launches smartphone Apps powered by Polar Mobile

WEBWIRE

Toronto, ON – WWF-Canada and Polar Mobile have teamed up to make it even easier for Canadians to stay up to date with WWF-Canada news with the launch of new smartphone Apps today.

Through its SMART™ Platform, Polar Mobile has designed an App that works across all major smartphones and gives users updates on the latest WWF-Canada news, from conservation successes, stories and videos to details on upcoming events in Canada and around the world,

The App will include important WWF-related news feeds such as media releases, blog posts, and Twitter.

“This is an exciting and important step for us, that gives us access to new audiences in a new way, and one which we expect to become more and more important as mobile technology progresses,” said Christina Topp, Vice President Marketing and Communications. “We are thrilled to be working with Polar Mobile in helping WWF-Canada connect with supporters.”

With approximately five million current smartphone users in Canada, according to research from Neilson Online, mobile platforms are growing in popularity with large segments of the Canadian population. In the highly competitive charitable sector, mobile technology opens up an important new avenue for not-for-profits to explore.

“We are happy to help WWF-Canada reach a mobile audience through the use of our turnkey SMART Platform,” said Kunal Gupta, Chief Executive Officer of Polar Mobile. “Polar Mobile has worked with a wide range of businesses to support their mobile needs, and we are proud to bring that expertise to the not-for-profit sector.”

WWF-Canada is the first not-for-profit organization in Canada to use Polar Mobile technology to develop a smartphone app. The WWF-Canada apps are available for direct download for your BlackBerry, iPhone, Android and WP7 devices at http://download.wwfcanada.mobi/ or by searching “WWF-Canada” in the BlackBerry App World, Android Market, Windows Marketplace or iTunes App Store.
