Dawn Hodgson Surprised to Find her Breast Cancer Claim in the News

WEBWIRE

Dawn Hodgson, who suffers from incurable breast cancer, was surprised to find her medical negligence claim had made the local Worcester news before the defendants had sufficient time to respond to her allegations.

Mrs Hodgson is currently in the process of pursuing a compensation claim against both the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust and locum GP Dr Susan Bailey.

She claims that a mammogram was misreported in June 2004, and a breast lump reported to her GP in April 2005, and then subsequently to the breast clinic in 2005, 2006, and 2007, was not properly investigated, despite a family history of breast cancer.

In August 2008 Dawn Hodgson was diagnosed with widespread cancer, originating from the lump in her breast. Had the cancer been caught earlier, Mrs Hodgson believes her prognosis would have been for a full life expectancy.

Speaking on behalf of Mrs Hodgson, Richard Money-Kyrle of Darbys Solicitors said: "The last thing Dawn wanted was to be in the newspapers - we were shocked to see her story had made the Worcester news so early in legal proceedings.

“Dawn would like to stress that the main reason she is pursuing this claim is to ensure that the same thing doesn’t happen to other women and to reinforce the message that it is not just finding the lump in the breast that is important, it’s making sure that it is properly investigated by medical professionals.”

Dawn’s case was submitted to the Courts at the end of September 2010. She is currently waiting for an official response to the allegations from both the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust and Dr Bailey.

Richard Money-Kyrle is a clinical negligence solicitor and Partner with Darbys Solicitors LLP of 52 New Inn Hall Street, Oxford, OX1 2 DN etc
