Accurate and easy-to-operate blood glucose meters by Bayer

Leverkusen, – People with diabetes and their diabetes teams have to rely on their blood glucose meter. New studies(1,2) show the very good precision and accuracy of the plasma calibrated Contour as well as of the plasma calibrated Contour®USB.

“Contour and Contour USB are accurate and easy-to-operate blood glucose meters”, summarizes Prof. Stephan Matthaei, Diabetes Center, Quakenbrück, Germany. Correlation with hexokinase laboratory method was very good (r= 0.99) and all measurements were in Zone A of the Clarke error grid. The performance data of the plasma calibrated device comply with the specifications of international ISO standard 15197.(3)

Method:
Precision: Low, normal and high control solutions were used to test precision. 20 measurements were performed with three meters calibrated to plasma using control solutions by trained personnel.
RiliBÄK Accuracy: Average values of the precision measurements in the series (n=20) of low, medium and high control solutions were compared with the target value of control solutions and with the ± 11% target range.
Comparative Accuracy to lab: Measurements were performed under routine conditions between Contour/Contour USB and hexokinase laboratory method with 100 type 1 and type 2 diabetics.

Results for Contour in detail:
Precision: Average CV for low, normal, high control was 1.9%, 1.5%, 1.5%. Average overall CV was 1.6%.
RiliBÄK Accuracy: With low, normal and high control solutions, deviations from the target value were between -2.3 and 2.9%, well within permissible relative deviation of the individual value of the control sample measurement (± 11%).
Comparative Accuracy: Resultant regression analysis was r=0.99. All measurements were in zone A of the Clarke error grid analysis.

Results for Contour USB in detail:
Precision: Average CV for low, normal, high control was 2.6%, 1.8%, 1.8%. Average overall CV was 2.1%.
RiliBÄK Accuracy: With low, normal and high control solutions, deviations from the target value were between 1.2 and 4.5%, well within permissible relative deviation of the individual value of the control sample measurement (± 11%).
Comparative Accuracy: Resultant regression analysis was r=0.99. All measurements were in zone A of the Clarke error grid analysis.
