TestAmerica Addresses the Challenges of Analyzing Landfill Gas at the Iowa Environmental Symposium

William Elcoate, TestAmerica’s Air Product Director, will speak on the latest analytical developments of landfill gas testing at the 2010 Environmental Professionals of Iowa (EPI) Fall Symposium. The presentation will be given on November 16, 2010 in Johnston, Iowa.

The U.S. EPA has been tightening the regulations, requiring additional reporting requirements for volatile emissions from new, operating, and closed landfills. With increasing regulatory attention towards landfill greenhouse gas and air toxic emissions, generating quality data becomes of significant importance. The use of landfill gas as a viable energy resource has also expanded testing methods that are used to evaluate gas characteristics for power system design, as atmospheric emissions may vary. This is dependant on waste materials historically placed in these landfills.

Mr. Elcoate’s presentation will review the regulatory environment surrounding the evaluation of gaseous landfill emissions, address analytical methods, and laboratory procedures to ensure that testing results are relevant and accurately representative.

Mr. Elcoate has over 20 years of experience in the environmental laboratory testing industry. Mr. Elcoate is the technical and regulatory support coordinator for TestAmerica’s Air Programs. His responsibilities include State & Federal regulation review, operational interface, and air program standardization. Mr. Elcoate provides technical training and market support for TestAmerica and has spoken at numerous conferences across the United States.
