Sony offers UK shoppers early Christmas present

WEBWIRE

Christmas stockings look set to be bulging with electronic gifts this year after Sony announced it will be handing VAT back to customers.

The promotion, which applies to selected goods bought before Christmas Eve, is aimed at encouraging shoppers to go ahead with the purchases they might be thinking twice about, before the government’s new 20 per cent VAT rate kicks in.

Consumers will be able to choose from a wide range of products if they want to get the VAT back with Sony, including camcorders, monitors and laptops. All these products are now available from BT Shop which carries a huge selection of electronic goods.

The campaign, which is the largest ever run by Sony, includes a series of television adverts starring actor Derek Jacobi, which premiered over the weekend on ITV1’s Saturday night primetime show, The X Factor. The television campaign will be supported by online and press advertising, with the message that it’s still possible to buy that extra special gift thanks to a helping hand from Sony.

A spokesman for BT Shop said: “We’re delighted to be able to offer customers a chance to save on their Christmas shopping by stocking Sony’s range of products. It can be a very expensive time of year so an offer like this is fantastic news for UK consumers.

The VAT offer on Sony electronics relates to products from a selected range, purchased before December 24. A claim for VAT must be submitted to Sony before January 31.
