DirectRooms – Chiang Mai’s fastest runners compete in local marathon on 26 December 2010

WEBWIRE can reveal that Chiang Mai is set to host its own marathon featuring runners from around the world and some of the quickest local athletes all due to take part in the event.

The Chiang Mai marathon is now in its fifth year and will feature athletes of varying fitness levels from semi professionals to those with just a keen interest in running.

The race will be divided into categories for both male and females and then split by age for 18 to 39 year olds, 40 to 49 years and 50 years and over. Prize money is available for runners finishing in the top five positions while contestants will also be looking to raise sponsorship money for the city’s charities and schools.

The full marathon will see contestants competing over the full 42.195km distance while other races include a half marathon and a 10km run for less experienced runners.

In previous years a large number of runners have come from Singapore and Malaysia to compete in the event while members of other nationalities have also included France, the USA, Japan and the UK.
