3,000 Americans Respond to MocoSpace Poll;
New Jersey may be the New Swing State

BOSTON – November 4th, 2010 – MocoSpace, the largest entertainment destination on the mobile web, recently completed the first-ever political straw poll conducted on the mobile web. The poll asked 3,000 respondents: Who would you rather have as President of the U.S. – Sarah Palin or Snooki from Jersey Shore? Though it was a neck-and-neck race, Snooki (real name Nicole Polizzi) of television reality show Jersey Shore, won by a small margin: 51% to 49% over former Alaska governor/US Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin.

With the GOP making big strides in the mid-term elections, MocoSpace decided to tap into its user base of over 15 million to measure Americans’ opinions of potential Obama contenders in 2012. As overall sentiment for Obama has slipped since 2008, other contenders seem to be finding an opening. The poll saw an 8% increase in the number of MocoSpace users who plan NOT to vote for Obama; 24% of users said they did not vote for Obama in the last election, compared to 32% who say they will not vote for him in the 2012 election. However, the number of voters who said they WILL vote for Obama remains the same at 44%. 24% remain undecided about who they will vote for in the next election.

MocoSpace has one of the youngest demographics among social networks, with an average age of 24. The site also features a highly diverse audience, with one-third of members Hispanic, one third African American and one-third Caucasian. “Given our young, diverse and mobile demographic, we have a unique channel for measuring the instant perceptions and opinions of the mobile generation,” says MocoSpace CEO Justin Siegel.
