with Newly Developed Torque Vectoring System -

YOKOHAMA - Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. announced the addition of new 16GT and 16GT FOUR grades to Nissan JUKE compact sports crossover, both which go on sale today at Nissan dealers nationwide. Featuring a newly developed turbo engine, the JUKE 16GT and 16GT FOUR (with 4-wheel drive) offer a sportier driving feel than JUKE non-turbo models.

Ushering in a new genre of vehicles, the compact sports crossover, Nissan JUKE has been acclaimed by a wide range of customers since its launch in June for its bold design, strong presence, superior driving and environmental performance, and affordability.

Nissan JUKE 16GT/16GT FOUR grades are equipped with a newly developed 1.6-liter engine (MR16DDT), along with Xtronic CVT™ with 6-speed manual shift mode offering both performance equivalent to a 2.5-liter engine and superior fuel efficiency. The JUKE 16GT FOUR (4WD) features ALL MODE 4x4i with a newly developed torque vectoring system, an advanced version of ALL MODE 4x4i, enabling responsive cornering as the driver intends.

In order to fit in a compact vehicle body while also producing responsive power and fuel efficiency, the 1.6-liter MR16DDT engine combines a direct injection gasoline mechanism improving combustion efficiency and a highly-efficient compact turbocharger, with Continuously Variable-valve Timing Control (CVTC) for both intake and exhaust, contributing to improved intake and exhaust efficiency. Furthermore, exhilarating acceleration, agile response and superior fuel economy are all optimally balanced by providing maximum power output of 140kW (190PS)/5600rpm and maximum torque of 240N・m (24.5kg f・m)/2000-5200 rpm - producing power that lasts through the high rpm range, while generating strong torque from low engine rpm.

ALL MODE 4x4i with the torque vectoring system is a newly developed 4WD system, which can distribute torque for both front and rear wheels. The new system optimally controls torque distribution between the right and left rear wheels by adopting electronically controlled coupling for the rear wheels. It also adjusts torque distribution between front and rear wheels according to driving conditions, such as the driver’s steering operation and vehicle behavior. During cornering, understeer is reduced by distributing more driving force in the outer rear wheel. Therefore, it quickly alters the direction of the vehicle by steering operation, as if the driver operates the vehicle as intended through accelerator operation.

Also offered for 16GT/16GT FOUR is Xtronic CVT™ with 6-speed manual shift mode with synchronized rev control. The suspension is specially tuned for 16GT series and rear disc brakes are adopted. Also standard on both grades are 17-inch tires and aluminum-alloy wheels. In addition, a rear multi-link suspension is adopted for the 16GT FOUR for improved road holding, fulfilling the potential of the MR16DDT engine and ALL MODE 4x4i with torque vectoring system for an even higher level of sporty and exhilarating driving.

The new 16GT/16GT FOUR models also include JUKE’s Intelligent Control Display. When “Sports” driving mode is selected, a strong, linear acceleration feel is realized with step shift control in the CVT, which emphasizes shift-up feeling during acceleration. In addition, sportier driving is realized through special electronic power steering control with a strengthened steering feel. On the display panel itself, turbo boost pressure and longitudinal and lateral gravity are shown to add to driving pleasure.

Nissan JUKE 16GT/16GT FOUR is available in eight colors, including a special Steel Blue Metallic, adopted specially for 16GT series.
