Residents at Croydon’s City House apartments are benefiting from affordable, lower-carbon heating and hot water thanks to advanced metering technology supplied by sustainable energy company ENER-G Switch2.

This is the first time that ENER-G Switch2 has worked with Fairview, and energy-saving projects at two other Fairview developments are also in the pipeline.

Fairview specialises in developing brownfield sites and derelict land to create attractive living environments. City House combines a mixture of privately owned, socially tenanted and shared ownership apartments and studios, and the development generates its own energy from wind turbines.

The company is one of the UK’s biggest suppliers of metering and billing technologies and services for multi-tenancy buildings.

Yorkshire-based ENER-G Switch2 has evolved from a metering and maintenance operation, predominantly for local authority clients operating large district heating schemes, into total energy service provision.

Its services include the design, installation and maintenance of green communal energy schemes for public and private sector clients. Among its customers are: Berkeley Homes, Hyde Housing Association and Gentoo, as well as numerous local authorities, registered social landlords and public and private sector organisations.

The ENER-G group offers an integrated approach to energy management in major residential developments, including consultancy, procurement and smart metering, as well as online energy and utilities data management systems that optimise energy use.

The group also provides a market leading combined heat and power (CHP) solution that is almost twice as efficient as conventional power generation. CHP electricity is around one third of the price charged by conventional UK suppliers and cuts carbon by around 20%.

Security sealing of the systems reduces the risk of tampering and vandalism and the metering scheme provides a comprehensive analysis of billing and overall efficiency and cost performance.

ENER-G Switch2 recently celebrated its 30th anniversary in Yorkshire by expanding into new premises in Saltaire near Bradford, where the company will create up to 20 new jobs in the next 12 months.

It has doubled its turnover over the past three years to £9 million and is on target to achieve an £11 million turnover this financial year.

Jayne Clare, managing director of ENER-G Switch2, said the business had already beaten targets set in its five-year growth plan.
